Giuseppe
Di Franco

A digital manager and author, he discusses artificial intelligence as a driver of competitiveness for Italy and Europe.

A vision that starts with people, businesses, and institutions, and reaches digital sovereignty.

"There is still time to ensure that the digital revolution - and artificial intelligence in particular - is not merely a threat or a privilege for the few, but a concrete and widespread opportunity for our country and for Europe."

Who is Giuseppe Di Franco

Giuseppe Di Franco leads Lutech, one of Italy's largest players in digital technology and artificial intelligence, with six thousand people across Italy, Spain and Albania. He drives its growth by combining industrial vision with a concrete focus on results.

A graduate in Management Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1992, he devoted his early career to mergers and acquisitions, digital and outsourcing projects across Europe. In 2005 he joined the Siemens Group as Senior Vice President and advanced through international roles, going on to manage over two billion euros in revenue across seventy countries.

In 2013 he took over the leadership of Atos Italia as Chief Executive Officer, quadrupling its revenue, and later assumed global-level responsibilities. In 2023 he designed the acquisition of Atos Italia by Apax: a transformative operation that led Lutech to become the new, major hub of Italian digital technology, which he now leads as Chief Executive Officer.

Giuseppe Di Franco collaborates with the Politecnico di Milano as an Adjunct Professor at the University's Graduate School of Management, a Board Member of the GSoM, and a Top Influencer Alumnus. He is a member of several associations, including the Ambrosetti CEO Club, Canova, Elis, and Diplomatia, where he also serves on the Board of Directors. In March 2026 he signed with Mondadori Piemme «Artificial Intelligence for the Future of Italy»: an essay that explores AI as a lever of competitiveness for the country and for Europe, with a firm focus on digital sovereignty.

Artificial Intelligence for the Future of Italy

Skills, use cases and value in an innovating Europe.

Innovation, skills and digital transformation are the levers on which the country's competitiveness is played out today. Giuseppe Di Franco's essay starts from this conviction: Italy has the resources to open a new season of growth, and artificial intelligence can be its accelerator, provided it is adopted with strategic vision, responsibility and concreteness.

It is not an academic treatise, but a book oriented towards the concrete and scalable adoption of AI. Through real cases of businesses and administrations that have already embarked on transformation, it shows that AI is neither an abstract promise nor a privilege for a few multinationals: it is a strategic necessity for Made in Italy and for the relaunch of the country's system.

Focus On

For Giuseppe Di Franco, digital sovereignty is first and foremost an industrial opportunity: the possibility, for Italy and for Europe, to choose where to take a leading role and to build value, autonomy and competitiveness starting from data, infrastructure and skills.

THE LEVERS TO BUILD ON — THREE RESOURCES WE ALREADY HAVE
01 · DATA
An asset to be valorised

The data of Italian businesses working for Italian businesses: a wealth to be brought together into a system.
02 · COMPUTING
Infrastructure on which to build innovation

Cloud, computing power (HPC and Quantum) and European networks.
03 · PEOPLE
Widespread skills and talent

What turns technology into real value.
"Italy is Europe. The digital future is built, not endured."

IN-DEPTH

Two directions and a European vision

1 · SKILLS
Spread a widespread digital culture and close the skills gap, using AI not only as a production technology but as a lever for training, reskilling and education, personalising learning as never before.
2 · REAL CASES, NOT THEORY
The heart of the book: artificial intelligence already at work, told through concrete cases of companies and public administrations. From manufacturing to healthcare, from justice to energy, it identifies the areas where adoption brings measurable benefits quickly.
3 · THE EUROPEAN DIMENSION
An Italo-European vision founded on digital sovereignty, on common infrastructure starting with the cloud, and on an industrial AI policy that strengthens strategic autonomy and democratic values. In this framework Italy can become a laboratory and engine of a new development model.
